Born in Indiana, my childhood was spent in Kentucky and West Virginia. My undergraduate work was at Anderson University with my M.A. degree in art education from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. After teaching art in the public schools of Indiana and Wisconsin for 34 years, I recently retired from the Verona Area School District. I am thoroughly enjoying my current focus on painting and gardening.

My ideas, concepts and visual images are present in my mind long before coming to life on paper or canvas. Like flirtations of possibilities, these ideas roll over and over until the images evolve into something tangible from the mindscape. My works are based on my personal experiences and surroundings.

While my current emphasis is working with acrylic paint, I have a long history of watercolor painting and watercolor collage, oil painting, pastel and conte` portrait drawing, and fiber art. Presently, I am exploring themes in series based on Prairie Plants in the different seasons of the year; the Land with an emphasis on forms; and Abstracts with painted layers of digital images. My works are very textural with layers of paint and, frequently, palette knife application. My acrylic paintings are representative of different themes in my life- much like colors of threads that weave together to form my fiber.
