Membership
On Saturday October 8, judging will be held for membership in the Madison Art Guild.
Application forms are available from Cynthia Koshalek, 845-7605 or clkart@charter.net,
or can be downloaded here.
Applicants may bring two pieces of art work to Sequoya Library in Madison, Room A, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Membership is open to any artists, amateur or professional, who live in Dane County. New members are juried into MAG in the fall by a professional judge.
Active membership depends on one's ability to participate in the current year's program.
MAG sponsors several exhibits and its members participate in art fairs and shows every year. MAG artists return 5% to the organization for sales made at MAG-sponsored events.
To keep MAG healthy, members need to volunteer on committees and special projects as they arise. New members are required to fulfill volunteer activities within the first year. To volunteer, contact one of the officers or the chair of the committee you are interested in. Involvement is a wonderful way to get to know other members.

Dues
Dues are reviewed annually. For 2011-2012 they are $25. Members should pay their dues during intake for the annual
Salon Show in June at UW Hospital & Clinics Skylight Lounge Gallery or send it to the Treasurer. There is also a separate
Salon fee each year. Deadline for dues is August 1. See by-laws for more information.
Member Notes
MAG web site updates, suggestions, and questions should be sent to
web@madisonartguild.com.
Each member's name and media will be listed on the MAG site.
Beyond that, each member must decide how much personal information should be on the site.
For example an email address, phone number, or home address. That decision can be changed at any time.
For examples of what other artists have submitted look at the membership page
artists by name.
Some personal data will also be on other pages, such as
artists by media,
but it will be a copy of the data from
artists by name.
Each member may also have a personal page.
The page may have a statement and at most six pictures, but it is not necessary to have both.
The pictures do not need to be any particular size as we will layout the page and size the pictures.
Submitting the pictures in jpeg format is helpful but not required.
One of the pictures will be used on the membership pages.
That picture should be one that looks ok at a small size.
For examples of personal pages click on the small picture to the left of a member's name on any of the
membership pages, the artists by name
page, for example.
Each member may have a madisonartguild.com email address.
The address can look like name1.name2@madisonartguild.com.
Do not pick generic art terms such as acrylic or watercolor for one of the names.
We supply the server names, port numbers, account name and password.
But the account must be setup without help from us.
Please feel free to send pictures or questions to
web@madisonartguild.com.
Scholarships
Through a generous donation to the Madison Area Technical College Foundation, MAG supports a scholarship to an MATC art student
who needs financial support to continue his or her education. The MATC art department selects the recipient. The scholarship is presented
at the Spring Awards Breakfast held at MATC. Members are encouraged to establish scholarships and memorials through MAG as
an ongoing gift to the community.
The Madison Art Guild participated in an outreach program in 2009. Louise Joyce wrote a grant proposal to Meriter Hospital's
Friends for Friends program requesting $500 to present an art education program for underprivileged children.
The grant money was approved and two programs were organized for children at the Salvation Army Worthington Darbo Center.
In the first program Bill Walters and Louise Joyce worked with the children teaching them sketching, rubbings, pencil drawing and
even some edible "turkey art" to celebrate Thanksgiving. The second session focused on working with pastels.
Joel Wish and Louise Joyce worked with approximately 30 children. Children were given a gift pack of various art supplies to continue
the learning process. In January Kerri Shannon and Norma Hove provided another session on jewelry making and origami.
The smiles and hugs were feedback, letting MAG members know how much they were appreciated.
Educational Opportunity for Members
Learning from Each Other
Judy and Dave Peterson and Loretta Dooley presented a workshop in October titled "Selling Your Work".
Based on their many years of experience in the art field they provided pointers on finding and keeping customers, pricing,
selling techniques, client lists, marketing, and choosing the right show for you. They also discussed the new methods of
applying to art shows using electronic applications, including the importance of having professional images of your work.
