Biography

The objects and scenes that make up my work are captured from a variety of sources: daily life, dreams, other artwork, song fragments and books. Combining disparate objects in imagined settings is a way to create another reality. I layer flattened, diagrammatic space with more realistic settings to evoke a beauty which is off-balance, uncertain. It makes the familiar unfamiliar and allows me to make sense of the world as I experience it.

Andrea Woito Murray is a Madison based artist who has worked in a variety of media since earning her M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Iowa in 1994. This includes oil, pen and ink, watercolor and mixed media.
