Benefits of Membership

Membership is open to any artist, amateur or professional, who resides in Dane County.  This is a juried process. New members are juried in September.

MAG sponsors several exhibits and opportunities for showing and selling your artwork, including:

  • January Showcase Takes place each January – February at UW Hospital.
  • Summer Salon Takes place each June – July at UW Hospital. This is a juried show with awards and an evening reception.
  • Art Fair on the Square MAG has a standing booth for AFOS, and 4 MAG members are chosen to participate by lottery each fall.
  • MAG Facebook Page All MAG artists are encouraged to post their work and announce events.

MAG holds a number of informal gatherings throughout the year for socializing and sharing of artwork:

  • Monthly Art Nights MAG artists get together informally and share, critique, and discuss their art.
  • MAG Annual Meeting and Dinner MAG members meet in the Fall for an Annual Meeting with Dinner and cocktails. New members are invited to share their work. This is a fun social gathering and we look forward to meeting again in person this fall.
  • MAG Website Artists Profiles MAG artists are listed on the website and each artist is encouraged to have a personal page with multiple images.
  • Plus studio visits, trips to museums, workshops, fundraisers, “make art together” gatherings, and whatever else our members cook up!

Active membership requires each member to participate in at least one MAG show each year, and to support MAG initiatives by volunteering. Since MAG is an all-volunteer organization, all members must complete at least one MAG task per year. It is the work of every member of MAG that supports the viability of our 100+ year organization. Examples of MAG tasks range from chairing or co-chairing committees, hosting art nights, helping with shows and Board duties.

How to Apply

New member jurying is completed each year in September. At times, we have added a Spring Membership drive as well. If you are interested in becoming a MAG member, complete the interest form below to stay in the know about upcoming jurying.

Jurying Details

The judge will evaluate applications on three criteria:

  1. Originality/creativity
  2. Composition/design
  3. Technical skill

To ensure a fair and unbiased process, the Judge will not have access to applicant personal information. From the judge’s perspective, the process is entirely anonymous. All materials, including photos, will be assembled under a pseudonym such as “Applicant 1.” The judge will only have access to your pseudonym, the identification of your medium, your artist’s statement, and your photos.

Membership Dues

Dues are $45 annually, paid in September.

If you have questions or would like to discuss your interest in applying to the Guild, please contact Kimberly Eitland via email at newmembers@madisonartguild.com.
